Last Call
WiMAX is no longer a foreign word now.It seems not only have they caused a huge awareness in the society but they have made an impact to them as well.
People have begun taking additional notice of the service and started comparing more analytically with our present WiFi services that most people are still using.
I mean, despite the fact that I am in awe with the services that WiMAX provides, I am still running and making my way to places that provides WiFi.
Is it old habits die hard or am I just plain lazy?
I guess it’s a fine line.
Everyone seems to know that there is a differentiation between WiMAX and WiFi, but most people merely know the surface or the one or two details of the dissimilarity between these two services.
I asked some of my friends and most of the answers I hear back was,
“I know WiMAX is faster than WiFi lah”
Or
“I know we can go anywhere to online with WiMAX and not as troublesome as WiFi”
We all know that both services are wireless broadband services but it is also very distinctive that these two services provide very different use for possibly same target audiences.
Having WiMAX it gives us a larger and wider range of places that we can be to surf the internet without having the hassle of finding a specific location whereas WiFi, we need to open our eyes to be sure that that location we are at has the service available.

Or so they say.
These are very vital particularly in terms of mobility for us as we need to keep up with the pace of being in an urban upbringing.
I think it is rather apparent that WiMAX provides a higher speed compared to WiFi as many posts that I have written before regarding this matter in detail.
The thing that I never mentioned was that WiMAX actually support multimedia applications where as WiFi doesn’t.
Again, one point goes to WiMAX.
But today, the core highlight is that their promotion that WiMAX been having ends today.
TODAY is the last day to sign up with them and not pay for the modem that costs RM999!
So seriously, you know your going to jump on the bandwagon sooner or later.
Why not today and get the fees for the modem waived?
Remember, hurry and sign up as today the 30th September is the last day of this offer!

Live, GOssip & Inspire - Finale
Mention the name PamSong and one would have thought that it was a Thai name. At least, that's what I thought when I first saw her name on the infamous Innit tag cloud. Being a curious person, I clicked on the name and was brought to her blog, called Tinkitalks.
This was her header circa February 2008 :

Entitled "Chinese New Year Blessings"
Although I barely spoke to her the first time we met (there were 17 of us and we were scattered all over), we have became friends through constant communication by email (record-breaking gmail threads) followed by meet-ups, outings and the like as time passed by.
This is Pam most of the time :

Cicak Kubing Pam.
And for those who wants to win tickets to the GOssip event (which you have already read about in Joshua's, David's and Kel's blog), here's how :
1. Log on to Live and Inspire.
2. Name the cover story.
3. Email it to info@empowerlives.com with your personal contact information.
So hurry on now and get your free tickets for :

The Flasher
My eyes bulged out when I checked the second video that WiMAX launched on YouTube. My guy friends were snickering and some of my female friends showed faces when they told me about it.
Now I knew why.
With such a provoking title ‘The Flasher’ what else could ever come to mind?
And true enough, the moment the video loaded the stood a man running across town with a big brown coat flashing something to people who came across his path.
Do not get me mistaken, it is a funny video and I do get the underlying meaning that WiMAX was trying to achieve with it.
However, the advertisement is rather misleading and it also shows WiMAX in a minimal negative light.
Here, check it out:
They are seen as a menace or sometimes harmful to people around.
And judging from the facial expression of the people in the ad, they seemed disgusted and unhappy with what the flasher showed.
However towards the end of the video, we are able to finally see that it wasn’t what we thought it was but it was actually a notification about WiMAX.
However, if it was just a sign board writing about WiMAX being ‘flashed about’, explain to me the looks and reactions from the people.
Shouldn’t they be surprised or even happy about the information regarding WiMAX?
Why were they appalled by what they saw?
Then again, despite it being rather controversial to certain people, it was a rather amusing video.
You can bet your bottom dollar that this video would get certain tongues wagging about it.

Bollywood WiMAX
Were the precise words I read when my friend decided to IM me on the messenger.
Clicking onto the link, I was brought forward to this particular video.
I clicked play and waited patiently to load.
The title itself called ‘Bollywood WiMAX’ was an adequate amount to capture my attention as it is.
I wondered, what on earth could this video be?
A mockery or a joke on WiMAX?
Or could it be that WiMAX is also involved in Indian films that we do not know about?
After tolerantly waiting for it to finish loading, I played it.
Now, I had witness my fair share of advertisements.
Before I go into it, I have to heavily advice all of you to load the video and watch it.
It’s too good not too.
Not only did the video give classic Bollywood movie setting into it, with the old scratched film effects and the high pitch female voice singing through the air.
It did keep me wondering for a good couple of minutes just what the ad was about.
Where was the correlation with WiMAX?
Not only was it imaginative but it was hilarious as hell.
It got me chuckling to myself as I watched it.
It spoke the truth about the boundaries that most of us face with our current internet solutions.
A fantastic twist towards the end, now this is what I call being able to touch the human and personal side of people.
Humour.
What a way to send a message across to get the audience curious and excited about WiMAX.

The Price Is Right?
Well, a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.
The occasion was held during working hours on a weekday; I couldn’t afford to skip out on work now can I?
Scrolling through a range of blogs and also feedback from friends regarding the event, it must have been a smooth and successful one overall.
Putting aside all that fancy-schmancy perks that P1 provides, I was keen to know their price packages more than ever.
Just like any other pricing, there are the standard packages that are more affordable and basic for most people on a regular basis.

WiMAX has a standard plans splitting in two different categories known as ‘personal’ and ‘business.
The standard plans to my glee began as low as RM69 on a no contract basis whereas on a 12 month contract basis it is only RM59 for a 400kbps speed.
It is accessible and achievable for not only students but also for fresh working adults that may not be able to afford costly packages that are provided.
The list goes on with various speed for the ‘personal’ package such as 700kbps, 1.2Mpbs and 2.4Mbps with the prices that comes along.
What confuses me is that for the exact same speed and packages, under the ‘business’ package it carries a different pricing altogether.
Now that got me wondering does it mean WIMAX has segregated certain sections as ‘personal’ and certain section of the city for ‘business’? I'm sure there are reasons.
P1 WiMAX also launched promotional plans that falls under the same two categories.

The only differentiation that marks it from the rest is that it has a duration period since it is after all a promotional package.
The package is valid from 20th of August until 30th of September this year.
It is also applicable to the P1 WiMAX 1200 and 2400 packages on the 12 and 24 months contract and it comes with the free modem that costs RM999.
The biggest draw from the other packages is that the prices has been slightly reduced which can be evidently seen compared to the standard plans.
I have to say that I was largely attracted with the promotional plans and pricing that they were providing.
The only downfall is that, have you actually seen the size of the WiMAX modem?
Despite me being able to online anytime and anywhere I desire, lugging around that bulky thing made the services a little less likeable.
Its heavy enough carrying around my laptop and having to add the size of that modem on top of it?
I guess I wouldn’t need to join a gym to get a daily exercise for myself.

M2U 2.0 Exclusive Preview
Seeing a few familiar faces at the tables, I quickly secured a seat and was just in time for the opening speech. Now, for those of you who are users of the current Maybank2u.com site, get ready for a whole new revamp of the website - entitled M2U 2.0, which will launch very soon. Here's some pictures from the preview :

A good place for small events and birthday parties.

Those invited were encouraged to bring their own laptops for a hands-on experience of the new website.

Ahmad Shareza, Head of Virtual Banking - talking about the new website.

Part of the presentation showing the process and becoming of the new website.

Seeing that the current website focuses more on the bank, the new one will focus more on customers.

After the speech, everyone was invited to buka puasa. Went for second round with Jason.

Although the new website has 4 columns, it is easy on the eye.
Transferring funds was a breeze with just three simple steps and easy-to-locate instructions.

Coupled with the 'tab' feel according to assorted banking categories, the new website is looking great.
And then, something caught my eye while looking around the new website.
Something that resembles a yellow man or a yellow monkey.
Something smart, chatty and helpful.
Meet M - your friendly financial buddy.

With four fingers, M sure can type faster than you can say "Hello".
Reason being - you can add M to your Windows Live Messenger!
Although the concept of having an online customer service buddy has been around for long time already, M is something one can definitely look forward to.
Got a banking-related question? Just ask M.
Just like how I did.

Okay, my fingers were itchy and I tried asking M personal questions as well. Looks like M responded.
And I continued :
Nigel says:
What's your favourite food?
Agent M says:
I like to eat rojak and laksa Johor, yum yum!
Nigel says:
What do you like to do?
Agent M says:
I like doing all kinds of things.
Nigel says:
What kind of things?
Agent M says:
Sorry, I don't have the answer at the moment.
Nigel says:
Where were you born?
Agent M says:
I was built by the people at Maybank Malaysia :)
OK, should we get back to the kind of questions I was designed to answer?
Ok. So I asked a bit more :

This is interesting.

Hope to see the new website launch within the application soon.
Oh ya, I had to ask :
Nigel says:
Are you a male or female?
Agent M says:
I am neither male nor female. I'm a robot!
I hope you don't mind me asking but... Are you male or female?
Nigel says:
I'm a male.
Agent M says:
OK! I'll remember that you are male.
Nigel says:
Do you hate me for asking all these personal questions?
Agent M says:
I've been known to, on occasions.
Nigel says:
Do you love Malaysia?
Agent M says:
I sometimes love Malaysia.
Nigel says:
Why?
Agent M says:
Because you know, why not?
Nigel says:
Why sometimes?
Agent M says:
It's just one of those things, you know.
I know.

Numero Uno
Then there's also many local online video competitions lately, where one gets to upload their videos and stand a chance to win interesting prizes, such as Happy Moments.
Being a dabbler in video editing myself a few years back, I recently joined the Seagate Precious Memories and managed to win first place. Many thanks to all of you out there who voted for me. Without your votes, my entry is nothing.
You can view my entry on Seagate's site here but for a larger version, you can view it below :
And so, just recently, Seagate presented me with some really great prizes that I can use. Here's a picture of it :

A trophy, an external hard disk and a good amount of cash for my savings.
Oh well, just in time to store more of my unedited stuff for another video competition. Wish me luck.

Beyond Broadband?
The age of WiMAX has finally arrived.A month or so, when I spoke to people regarding this internet service, more than half wasn’t even remotely aware that it existed let alone, how does it function.
But P1 has certainly made an impact or should I say capture the attention of the mass market regarding this service.
Even the people who were never tech savvy are aware of WiMAX.

We are all most certainly looking forward to having a wireless city that enables to go online anywhere anyplace anytime.
Not forgetting the most reasonable packages of high speed and good customer service that has been assured for us.
You can read more on their launch not too long ago here.
Then, there is a plan provided by P1 called the Hotzone Prepaid Plan.
It is so much handier having a prepaid plan for we are able to take control of our financial spending at the same time.
For example, for just a mere RM5, you would get 24 hours unlimited access for an entire day.
But if you feel that it is a tad bit bothersome to be continuously reloading RM5, you could also go with the RM10 plan that gives you 168 Hours for an entire week.

For hardcore internet surfers such as myself, I jumped right away when I saw the RM20 plan that gives me 720 Hours unlimited access for 30 days!
Seriously just RM20 I kid you not.
I am able to surf with high speed connection anywhere I want. Streamyx just suddenly seem to have pale in comparison.
However, not all broadband services are dreadful.
The broadband service that P1 has come up with a fancy name called Priority Broadband.

The Priority Broadband offers dedicated connection to the internet with bandwidth speeds ranging from 512Kbps to 45Mbps which of course gives us no delays of network, speed and faulty stability.
Since I gather most people tend to stay up to the wee hours of the morning surfing online, we certainly need customer service that is 24 hours which Priority Broadband ensures that there will be network monitoring around the clock.
Surprise, surprise!
P1 has not forgotten about the fact that not everyone has the privilege of owning a computer or laptop for that matter.
And that some people just prefer a voice-to-voice communication rather than talking on a screen.
This is why they have come up with a prepaid card Nextel Calling Card that isn’t just a standard discount calling card that offers cheap STD and IDD call rates locally.

I’ll be able to talk on the phone with my friends who are studying abroad with this card without worrying that my line getting cut off.
I was told that it saves up to 90% on IDD calls and on roaming charges. Now, that is something I like to listen to!
The other day, my neighbor saw a break-in that happened right in front of his eyes.
It got me worried and wondered about the well-being of my family and my house. Imagine my astonishment when I heard that P1 has a multipurpose video monitoring system called Packet Eyes.

Cute name isn’t it? It actually gives us the ability to monitor our home or business through a computer or even our phones with live-streaming through the internet!
You don’t even need a PC to record anything as all recordings are secured by Packet Eyes virtual server.
With such an array of products and services, P1 is looking good so far. Scoot over here now to learn more.

Sa-wa-dee-kap! at Phuket - Finale
Of my familiarization trip across the coast,
Where See Tho played the best ever host,
I'd recommend him, so here goes.

Dinner was up next, we had Japanese,
After which, we hit the streets, enjoying the breeze,
We broke our group into twos or threes,
Checking out the night life, the people and their tease.

After a while, Nicole went internet surfing,
While Andy snapped away at the Thai girls dancing,
Me, Kelz & Kim went around shopping,
While KY was somewhere, well, much later - clubbing.

The night ended late and soon it was day,
Breakfast was at Straits Dining, simple - I would say,
Then we were off to Millenium Patong Resort, to survey,
From the rooms, the pool, the gym and to the massaging bay.

With less than a few hours more before we head home,
Some of us went out to the streets again to roam,
Taking pictures of tuk-tuks and stuff on the beach zone,
Well, soon enough, we were at the airport - groan!

Thank you for reading this poetic travelogue,
Hope you've enjoyed it - my Thailand walk,
Should you go to Krabi, give See Tho's door a knock,
Thanks to him, the entire journey rocked!
