Gradually We Graduate

Sometime ago, the usuals and I had a small little graduation celebration for Kelz as she breaks free from the student status to a young working adult status. And being the typical Malaysians that we are (or rather the typical activity one does at graduations), we were there fully loaded with our cameras, snapping away at the girl with the bouquet of flowers, flanked by her proud family members. Shortly after the scholarly event, we adjourned to have our steamboat dinner. Good times as always. Here's a little collage of selected pictures from that day :

001

Congratulations Kelz once again - and welcome to the grind! Mua ha ha ha!

Estrella's "Stay" - Music Video

It feels good to be back from the long weekend of recuperating from random aches and breaks gathered throughout the year. With the rest of the year ending in just about 2 months' time, 2008 seemed to have passed by so fast. But I guess we all say that every other year, huh? Oh well, I've been dabbling with some video works lately and I came up with a music video for Estrella.

Now, if you have not heard of them, you should. You can google them up or just scroll to the end of this post for some links to their site, if you want to. Easy listening assured. Anyway, without further ado, here is the video, do enjoy - comments and feedback are much appreciated.

Oh ya, Happy Deepavali to all Malaysians out there!

Canon Goes Green : Part #1

So you've heard all about saving the environment and going green throughout the years living in this country. You'd probably remember the "Recycle" song being played over and over again on the radio back in the early 90s. Then came the three coloured bins where you were taught to separate paper, glass and plastic items.

But I bet you don't remember planting any trees, now do you? Let me refresh your mind just a little bit. Remember the time in primary school where we were given a task to plant a red / green bean? We were supposed to use a glass jar and the medium was a damp cotton? I remembered it was the best moment ever watching the bean sprouting a leaf at that time. Well, it was like planting a tree, you'd have to agree - when we were small and Christmas trees were tall.

Fast forward to today and we're still planting. Trees that is. And more specifically in this year's biggest environmental effort to date : Canon Goes Green. Climaxing with the planting of 2500 trees of various species at Padang Kota Damansara and in the effort to sustain and save Mother Nature for our future generation, it was certainly a day to witness it myself.

Having the opportunity to attend the event, here are some pictures that will be presented in parts and captioned to tell a story. Hope you enjoy viewing them!

001
The event started at 730am on a Sunday and many were already there.

002
Participants were required to register themselves in given groups.

003
No surprises seeing the EnvironMENTALS there the earliest parading around in all things green.

004
There were 14 areas for the tree planting besides the various activity booths present that day.

005
Those who came early had more morning grub but the platters were always being refilled.

006
A gigantic canvas was present for the public to participate in finger printing leaves unto bare trees.

009
Hosts Hansen & Elaine all ready for the day.

007
Information brochures were also given out to the public as part of the activities lined up that morning.

008
For the kids, face-hand-body painting was available to keep them at bay.

010
Message #1 of the day : Guess we'd better think twice before going for the second round.

Canon Goes Green : Part #2 will be up soon. Be right back!

Kiss The Jerk Goodbye

As most people know I'm a video guy, so basically being on the lookout for new videos is something of the norm to me.

So no surprises to me when I found WiMAX's latest video on Youtube, I clicked play and waited for the video to load in anticipation.

Wondering what could they possibly come up with again?

The title itself was provoking as it is, so I had to say I was rather impressed with the real settings of how a press conference were to take place began in the front of the video.

The sound of a silent room was so real that for a moment I honestly thought I was watching a genuine press conference myself.

When the press conference began, there were a few problems with the video.

It seemed that it didn't want to play smoothly and that it was rather jumpy.

Thinking it was the sucky fact of my broadband that I am using, I felt a tad bit frustrated.

Only to be fooled towards mid end of the video from WiMAX.

Check it out for yourselves to understand what I'm trying to say.

I'm sure most of you would feel what I felt at first when I watched it.

Perhaps we can leave it up to WiMAX to show us the real problems that we do encounter with our current broadband internet service.

Now, I can't wait for the upcoming WiMAX videos. If there are more, that is.

On The Up

It was a wet evening and many people were leaving their workplaces later than the usual time. After all, it was a Wednesday and I'm pretty sure the workload for the week is at its peak. Perhaps not for everyone but for myself, at least. And being the middle day of the week, I needed a breather, a break from it all.

That's when it came.

Thanks to Kelz & Anju from Timeout KL, I was invited to Time Out's "On The Up" where local talents go on stage and perform originals at No Black Tie. Part of NBT's 10th anniversary celebration and October's Music Showcase 3, the lineup that night included Tony Leo Selvaraj, Thing One, FourLetter Story and Adil Johan Trio.

Now if you're looking for a place to chillout to good music or to simply watch and appreciate local talents do their thing, No Black Tie's the place you want to be in. Of course, you can also buy a drink or have a meal while you're at it. Here are some pictures from that night :

001
Located at Jalan Mesui, NBT is considered one of KL's best kept secrets.

002
RM20 at the door for a night of soul-soothing tunes.

003
If you're there early, you might even get a preview when the band soundchecks.

005
Hailing from the local theatre scene, Tony Leo sings and writes songs as well.

006
With a little bit of pop, rock and a traditional number, TLS opened the night rather well.

007
Met Brian - Timeout KL's music man that ran the show that night.

008
Thing One was up next with their instrumental set.

009
Showcasing to the audience their technical side, they are certainly a band to look out for in the future.

010
Soon, FourLetter Story took the stage and entertained the audience with their pop / rock songs.

011
Closing the night was Adil Johan Trio.

012
AJT featured guest performances that included Otam and Melissa.

013
Melissa filling in the choruses.

014
Kelz, Anju and with Dillon who turned up itchy to bang skins.

The event even had a lucky draw and I managed to be the chosen one (out of the many name stubs in a bowl) winning myself a 3D2N stay in Phuket. Talk about being lucky, huh? Well, it was definitely a good music night and it was worth taking the time out for it. Shall go back soon for future gigs.

The Fantastic Four

Clubs, restaurants, cafe, lounges and the like come and go every single time. Either they close down completely or they are being taken over by new management. Most of these places would normally have a theme or would boost some sort of likeness to a specific country / culture / colour - you get the drift. And they would remain the same for the next few years till renovation kicks to make way for a brand new look.

Then there's Quattro - an all-new club downtown which carries all the four seasons. I had the opportunity to attend the introductory launch earlier tonight to check out the place and I managed to take some pictures. Here they are :

001 copy

SUMMER (restaurant) is a sunny (read : yellowish themed) eatery where one can dine alfresco style while having a nice view of Jalan Ampang and the Petronas Twin Towers.

003 copy

SPRING (lounge) is located next to the restaurant where one can lepak, have drinks and enjoy live performances by bands while having the cooling breeze and the occasional rain (pathway) as part of the wow factor.

004 copy

AUTUMN (club) boasts the longest bar in the town and apparently, the first Japanese themed club (read : workers in kimonos) complete with flying autumn leaves in a contained space. Nice.

002 copy

WINTER (bar) is actually a room located on Level 2 having the temperature of +10 degrees while the snowing blue room's temperature is at -5 degrees. A haven for drinkers who just wants to chill and have a good time with friends over some club music.

005 copy

With that, it seems like Quattro has the complete package where you can chill, dine, party and unwind - right here in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. If the four seasons isn't your thing, I guess we can look forward to the all new Zouk Club in the near future. But for now, nothing beats Quattro's unique concept - the first of its kind to arrive in KL's clubbing scene.

006 copy

Note : Rainy days are here again. Stay dry. Grab an umbrella today.

Green Day!

Calling all nature lovers out there! If you've not heard, Canon Marketing Malaysia is calling all Malaysians especially those in the Klang Valley to register and participate in the upcoming historic tree-planting initiative.

Entitled 'Canon Goes Green' - it aims to create awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and the pledge is to plant up to 2500 tree saplings with each photo contribution it receives from the public via its website www.canongoesgreen.com

I bet we hear about 'going green' or being 'eco-friendly' a lot these days, but what are we
doing about it?

Well, I guess we can join Canon this weekend and contribute to the environment for our future. Check out other happenings in the poster below and see you there!

Kung Fu Lessons with Master Foo

I've been raving very much about the past few comedic and fresh videos that WiMAX has come up with.

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon the brand new one that they have come up with.

Reminding me of movies like Kung Pow, the moment I viewed it I was preparing myself for a hearty laugh or probably I could be holding my stomach from too much laughter.

The video finally finished loading, I clicked it and I felt there was the probability of my eyeballs being dropped onto my keyboard.

It wasn't very funny to be frank and it was actually rather dull and stereotyped.

The only thing that kept the video any ounce of interest for me, refraining me from falling asleep was that if you look closely, you would be able to see catch in the video.

WiMAX literally portrayed the nuisance that most people go through while loading videos on Youtube or other video sites that we have to either pause the video and wait for it to fully load, or while we watch it, we go through the buffering as it plays.

The video showed double buffering which was to me rather different, so props for that!

But despite it being a little bit boring on the side, do give the video a go. Who knows? You might end up enjoying it.

Celup! - Finale

After a short break from being online, here's the finale for the Celup! series.

Finale-Celup

001 copy
Most of us started to lepak and enjoy each others presence after the insect-eating session.

002 copy
Then it was clean up time. Everyone had something to do. No lazing around.

003 copy
Hwei Ming saved up for his family the next day.

004 copy
And while inside his house, we decided to take some group pictures, rather crazily.

005 copy
Not wanting to go just yet, we hanged a bit more outside and chit-chat.

006 copy
Some were going around and taking more pictures.

007 copy
Thomas didn't want to leave early as he arrived the last that night.

008 copy
However, some had to go as it was getting rather late.

009 copy
And all good things must come to an end.

010 copy
So we bid farewell to each other, one by one as we left with good memories to keep.

I’m Going Silent this Halloween with Nokia XpressMusic

Halloween was never a Malaysian thing despite the various parties that go on every year in clubs all around. When I was much younger, I was told to always stay in on two very special days ; the day of the Chinese Ghost Festival and of course, on Halloween day.

Years passed by and after watching a lot of "Halloween Special" movies on our free-to-air network, I realized that going trick-or-treating in the neighborhood could be a fun thing after all, especially when you get to meet other kids in your neighborhood (my residential area celebrated it many years ago).

But the one thing that always scares me was the random (or scary) noises that can be heard during those two special days. It just chills me to my bone, even though I know its just a cat or pipes creaking.

Fast forward to today (or rather this year) and we are presented with the very same thing. We still get to meet friends, listen to scary noises (and lie to ourselves its really a ghastly being), meet new people and even stand a chance to receive candy (or win cool prizes) during Halloween. (Yes, we tend to ignore the whole reason behind Halloween in this part of the world)

"How?", one may ask.

Why, by going to Nuffnang + Nokia's 'Silent Halloween' party, of course.

Silent party? Well, you know how noisy parties can get, what more having monsters and creatures of the night frantically running around, right?

This time around, with Nokia as the official sponsor and Universal Music Malaysia as the official music sponsor, one can party, dance and move to the tunes one receives on their mobile phones, hence being 'silent' while actually attending the event. Cool, ain't it?

And to make things even cooler, one can actually win mobile phones from Nokia and music CD's from Universal Music Malaysia, while having a ball at the party.

Now, let's imagine going to the party all dressed up as some famous Halloween character. I guess the outcome would be like the following Nokia XpressMusic ads I personally created to suit this upcoming event :

Nokia001
Imagine Frankenstein groovin' along to some music on his Nokia XpressMusic phone.

Nokia002
Or Dracula tapping along to some Romanian rock band, powered by his Nokia XpressMusic phone.

Nokia003
Or seeing myself (yes, that's me in my awesome homemade Predator costume) getting jiggy with it with a Nokia 5320 ExpressMusic phone (if only I had one to get jiggy with it, though)

So, you see, with such a fantastic idea of hooking up a mobile phone (Nokia works the best, I assure you) complete with headphones, while partying to music from Universal Music Malaysia and being at a Nuffnang community event, this is one Halloween party you must not miss.

I know I will be there :

Poster02

And I know I will be going silent this Halloween with Nokia XpressMusic
.

No more making scary noises and getting scared by such noises again!

See you there!

Jangan Salah Kampung!

Clear roads despite driving at the peak hours of traffic, there was less than 10 cars or so in my sight.

What a bliss it is to drive in the city or anywhere for that matter during a festive season.

Everyone has returned to their hometowns, living the city vacant for a good couple of days.

Seriously, with the lack of traffic congestion, my stress level went down more than just a notch.

Being contentedly at home resting not having to get up and get to work at 9, I took my time leisurely surfing the internet and catching up on other things.

In conjunction with this festive Raya season, WiMAX has certainly outdone themselves again.

They produced a video in relation to the Hari Raya celebration that tickled my bone to the core.

I watched it more than two times because I have to say, I really liked the video!

The intro of the video gave such a melancholy feeling as they fiddled around with the effects of colours and settings.

It reminded me a little bit of how Petronas usually does their ads and we all know how those ads tend to touch us.

I grinned to myself as I saw the lead actor appeared on the camera as I just watched the movie he recently acted in called KAMI.

Needless to say his goofy image from the movie was almost similar as his goofy self in the advertisement.

WiMAX couldn’t have sent their message out any clearer and wiser and most certainly realistic.

Because let’s face it, the problems that the advertisement showed at the very end, all of us has went through it with our internet service provider.

So take my word for it.

Load the video and watch it to the end.

I can bet you, you will like it and I am certain laughter will erupt!

Here you go :

Inilah Ska

Here's a little music video I directed and produced approximately a year and a half ago. This video was actually the follow-up video work after this entry. It certainly brings back good memories especially working with a wonderful crew of two people. It also gave me a lot of experience shooting a local music video, coordinating with the band members and editing it till its good to go. It's ska music by the way, so load the video, grab your pogo stick and enjoy it!

Try to spot a country's flag at the end of the video. That's where ska music originated from. Happy, jumpy and makes-you-wanna-dance kind of music eh? Oh well, the weekend's here. Have a good one! *pogos away*
