Down South They Go!
They say that because being in the heart of the city, we are bound to be blessed with more modernity privileges.
P1 WiMAX has decided to break that little cliché and have announced proudly that they are expanding their little cyber technology butts not only all the way to Johor but to also specific areas such as Skudai, Batu Pahat, Muar, Segamat and get this, Kluang by the end of 2009.
Don’t you roll your eyes, I know the year 2009 hasn’t even begun but at least we know that there are future potential!
The fact that WiMAX is moving down south while already covering north areas, we now know for sure that WiMAX means business and it is certainly here to stay for a very extensive time more.
There were some who lamented at me saying why on earth P1 WiMAX is moving rather slowly, covering areas bit by bit where they could just start off with a bang, impressing the entire public by bragging just how many areas they can cover at one time.
In my honest opinion, I rather know that WiMAX has decided to be more detailed and have through research done in the areas they are setting up, knowing that the likelihood of the connection not being thriving is indeed a low one.
So down south we go, down south we shall!

Whiffing A 12 Year Old
About a fortnight ago, I attended the Chivas Tasting session at the Mandarin Oriental , armed with a camera and some anticipation to learn more about whisky.

From the Johnnie Walker labels, The Glenlivet to the Chivas 12, 18 and 25 - it had the crowd playing guessing games and munching bread in between each glass of whisky. There were even pro whisky experts in the ballroom that night, if you know what I mean.

Haflway through the salmon, Chivas launched its 12 in an all-new, limited edition metal casing (ala special metal casing for DVDs - what a marketing technique!) and it was being sold for a special price of RM150 a case that night.

Indeed the session has taught me a thing a two about whisky - from its history and how its made to the various types of whiskies available and how the Scots refer to it as the 'Water of Life'.
Now, does anyone know how some whiskies got its golden colour?

Time Out : On The Up - November - #2
And when it comes to the bass guitar, I've had the opportunity of learning to play it sometime ago thanks to some wonderful souls that are always around to teach me a thing or two.

Finger food had a whole new meaning to it.
Of course I'm no Jaco or John (Myung), but all of us need to start somewhere right? Well, you could start playing the last four strings on your guitar by putting it into 'bass mode' and ignoring the first two strings (I started on a Kapok like that) - while accompanying whatever chord that is being played in the song - very basic, no groove - no soul to it.
But that's another story for another time. Right now, I present to you - with all their techniques, skills and groovilicious hooks and part of Timeout KL : On The Up - Mr. Fook and his bass agents. Enjoy the video!
Can't get enough of them? Youtube some of the following people that I like who plays some kick-ass bass below, but you gotta guess their names first.

Hints (clockwise from top left) : J.Co Donuts, Halloween, Black, Theatrics, Insect & Woot!
Up next - Alaling & The Kaya Koks! Don't go away!

Of Books And Their Adaptation To Movies
Certainly we all have our preferences but when the movie adaptation is really bad, come on - we gotta admit it. And let's not forget the better ones like The Shawshank Redemption (Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption), Apocalypse Now (Heart of Darkness), Bladerunner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) and P.S. I Love You (the book was better though) just to name a few.
You may beg to differ, but then again, how much do we even read books?
Nevermind the books, we all love the movies more (in terms of instant geographical availability) this side of the world anyway.
How about British comedies? The kind that mixes romances, laughter, teen drama and friendship :

Want to catch it with your loved ones before others do? Well, here's your chance:

All you have to do is visit the mini site here, watch the trailer here and answer two simple questions and a tiebreaker to win yourself two tickets before its nationwide release.
A quick check on IMDB reveals that the movie has a user rating of 6.7/10, coupled with positive comments from all over. Not too shabby I would say, seeing that the director also did Bend It Like Beckham and Bride & Prejudice - favourite night-in movies of mine when all else fails to lighten the heart.
Closely following the book itself - Angus, Thongs & Full Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison - this is one romantic teen comedy you would not want to miss with your loved ones.
So, hurry up and get those questions answered! Contest ends 8 December 2008.

Time Out : On The Up - November - #1
Well, thanks to Timeout KL one can actually find some peace in live music right smack in the middle of the week in the form of Time Out : On The Up. What's more, each time the event comes - the acts are getting better and better.
Brand new talent. Fresh new sound - goes the little tagline at the Facebook page. Indeed, if you've never been to one of these, I highly recommend it - that is if you're a lover of music. Of course, the genres being showcased are somewhat skewed to the band-esque types - so don't expect any clubbing experience or Hed Kandi-ish antics on stage.
Come on, let's take a look at the first performance that night - this newly formed band (well, sometime ago actually) - An Honest Mistake, in the form of a video I put together :

Stay tuned for the next band's live video!

Wimax Workshops
Everyone has heard so much babbling and have read oodles of information regarding the wireless fantastic-o WiMAX just what exceptional treats they have in store for the community.

Without me having to sway or induce myself for a second take, glancing at the package offer is enough to get my mind set.
But P1 being P1, decided to sweeten the package even more appealingly for they have conjoined with Ebay to run a workshop for us little minions to attend!
It is actually a completely free of charge training by both of these big boy companies to reach out to the general masses on Internet Entrepreneurship.
I don’t think they are referring to those online boutiques that are popping up like crazy but heck, Internet seem to be the new wave to go with now regardless is it a business deal or even a business relationship.
The workshop which allows the people who are attending the workshop to have personal hands-on experience on how to sell things that they desire to venture into, it could be gadgets, second hand books or even your kidney, whatever that tickles your fancy with just a click of a few buttons on a handy laptop with speedy broadband access.
I expect no less of course, since it is WiMAX after all.
The training sessions will take place on November 12 2008 right up to December 6 and it will be happening in over eight outlets. It is going to happen twice a week on Wednesdays from 5.30- 7.30 p.m. and Saturdays from 11.00a.m-1.00 p.m. that goes on for over four weeks.
It may be a tad bit troublesome for those who live outside the city center as most of the venues that the workshop is taking place are smacked right in the middle of KL.
22 November 2008 : U Café, Sungei Wang
26 November 2008 : San Francisco Café, Lot 10
29 November 2008 : San Francisco Café, Lot 10
3 December 2008 : The Apartment, Suria KLCC
6 December 2008 : The Apartment, Suria KLCC
There are just way more information that I wouldn’t want to overload you with information on the workshop.
So easily with a simple mouse click head on to http://www.packet-1.com/common/aspx/activities_ref.aspx and don’t miss this chance!
Seriously, don’t.

Inside The Green Packet
Don’t mistaken me for a WiMAX over the top nut here, it’s just so compelling and rare to find a good (probably) broadband service that can get me off my grief of constantly being frustrated with our current streamyx that I am using.
I was terribly bummed when I couldn’t make it when P1 decided to give to those people who are eager and looking very much forward to their service a special tour in their office for an open floor discussion. This just plainly shows the amount of effort they put into communicating with the neighbourhood.
Seeing the pictures of their office was enough to make me feel envious that I couldn’t be there and I have to say I felt a tad bit impressed with their office space. It gave me a very spotless and spacious feeling just by looking at it. Heck, even their staff centre have a couple of Foosball tables, a gym and someone even wrote that they would be bringing in OGAWA massage chairs!

I was told that WiMAX was aiming to cover half of Klang Valley by the end of 2008, hurry up so I plead.
Someone asked during the tour regarding the notification for a WiMAX user if they had exhausted their usage limit which is probably a 20GB one, and they were informed that P1 is developing an application for the users to be able to check online at their website.
Check out their Network monitoring centre, with several workstations and such a huge screen, it brought me back to my early memories on the movie Minority Report.

P1 is certainly outdoing themselves.
I wished I went for the tour.
But to make up for it, I heard that the massive modem is actually very light weighted.
Woot!

The Best Gets Better
Long story short, The Company recently launched an online store as well. No, not thekind of personal boutiques you see mushrooming in every virtual corner of late but the standard online store that has all the necessary angles covered in terms of design, usability, payment and the like. Of course, the personal boutiques have that too, butyou get the drift.
So, after months of planning, drafting, designing and testing - the official online store plus a revamp of the official website is now made available to click-happy users like you and me.
Well, here's a little walk-through-guideline on the online store with screen shots :

You will be greeted with a splash page. Choose either Quiksilver or Roxy to enter.

Once inside, click on "Products" at the top of the page and you will brought to above pages.

You can then choose the categories on the left to view all available products.

By clicking on an individual product, you can view the product in detail and choose to add it to your cart.

If you haven't registered, you will be brought to this page.

Once registered, you will realize that your shopping cart is empty. Go on, add some items in!

Ta-dah! - Two items added in.

Once you are done with choosing your items, you will be brought here when you click 'Check Out'

Your details (the one you provided when you registered) will be displayed for confirmation.

By clicking 'OK', you will be brought to a pre-confirmation page which shows you the total amount.

Once you click 'Pay Now', you will be brought to this page where you can select your payment method.

Upon selection of payment method, this page is where you fill in your credit card details.

Once you're done making the payment, you will receive an email summary of the items you purchased.
Never has shopping in Malaysia been this simple and trouble-free, what more being online. Or I could be wrong - do tell me.

December Surprise!
Presents, presents, presents for Christmas.
Or even good bargains going around town everywhere.
And just like any other good deal to have around, WiMAX has given us a rather good one to end the year 2008 with!
In fact, Christmas presents from them came early.
From now until 31st December they have extended graciously their promotions plans that comes along with a free modem that costs RM999!
Their promotional plan is good enough to lap up, and to have it extended, I was even more hyped up with glee.
But, WiMAX has decided to go an extra step to end the year 2008 with a bang and to put a smile on everyone's faces.
Not only are the plans extended but the monthly charges has been reduced and slashed down!
No, my nose isn't growing any longer for I ain't pulling your legs about this.
See the chart below for yourself!

And I don't even have to pay a single cent to start the service.
Woot!

You Want Good Time?
Well, nothing beats that feeling, wouldn't you agree? That feeling of breaking free from the tons of paperwork, artwork, follow up work - whatever work you want to call it. That feeling where you can just zoom home or go to dinner and drinks with friends and loved ones. That feeling of having a good time after a hard week's worth of work.
But what if you were told that you can actually experience a good time on a Thursday? No, workstill resumes on Friday guys. What I'm talking about is a preview to the weekend.
A hint of relaxation. A tinge of rest, mixed with laughter. Something to add on to that good feeling you are already experiencing every Friday. Something comical. Something to take the load off your shoulders. Well, almost all of it.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, silent readers and those of you who are dropping by, may I present to you - Kuala Lumpur's best stand-up comedy night, Comedy Thursday.
Combined with Host MC Matt Sally (with a very strong British accent), you'd actually feel that you were in another country only to realize that after some odd minutes of local flavoured jokes, you were actually laughing and having a good time right here in the very heart of KL.
And without further ado, here's a little snippet of what went down that night. To your liking or not, well, I guess you'd have to come and see it for yourself, eh?

Bond's presence was so strong that night, he had the place packed to the brim. Pictures by David.
Remember, its on the first Thursday of every month. I heard the next one is going to be double the laughter.

GoMobile GoMobile Go
It's either you have a sidekick right next to you to share in on the time, or a really gorgeous babe or stud hanging onto your arm. And we all know just how most action hero's works now don't we?
Especially even classic heroes like James Bond.

Think Batman, now Bond has gone bad too as I heard.
Even the classic and traditional of Bond's traits such as his favourite drink, a dirty martini 'shaken not stirred' is taken away.
And the famous tag line for Bond?
"My name is Bond, James Bond"
Is also officially removed too in this movie.
I need to GO and see how Bond can remain that classic man he is without his quality traits.
How does one man get all the cars and women without a fancy one liner like that anymore I wonder?

Nokia Nuffnang Silent Halloween Rocks
Indeed, I attended the Nuffnang Nokia Silent Halloween Party, rather silently just yesterday. Held at Borneo Baruk Club, right here in the city centre - I must say it was one heck of a party, with many thanks to Nokia - the official sponsor of that night. Not only did I have a rockin' good time, I also won a Nokia 5220 XpressMusic (that comes with a spanking new Nokia Bluetooth Headset) for the most creative post.
Certainly a community event for Nuffnangers and bloggers alike, much thanks also goes out to Nuffnang for organizing and making it happen for all of us who are in the blogging-hood. Not to mention I'm loving my 5-pack assorted CDs containing power hitters, rock legends and grammy nominees, courtesy of Universal Music Malaysia.
All in all, you'd have to be there to truly experience what was it like to witness and be a part of a silent dance party with tunes provided by DJ Nicky C. And what about the many Halloween celebrity characters that showed up? From mummies, devils, phantoms, masked beings to Blair from Gossip Girl, Gene Simmons from rock band KISS, Adolf Hitler, Captain Hook, Paris Hilton, Bruce Lee, Kurt Cobain, Ayumi Hamasaki, Marilyn Monroe, Velma from Scooby Doo, Sadako from The Ring, Michael Jackson, Elvis, Morticia from Addams Family, Bjork, Amy Whinehouse, Phua Chu Kang, Milk Carton Man and the list goes on, you get the drift. The Nuffnang staff, on the other hand, came in major costumes and make-up thanks to Absolut Pitch and Fun Costume Shop.
Just mere words are not enough to do the party justice, so here is something for all of us to relive back that night through our eyes. It is a combination of video camera stills and video specially customized for your viewing and aural pleasure. Please feel free to click on the thumbnails for a larger view of the camera stills while you wait for the video to load, yea? Enjoy!
